Maimun Palace

Maimun Palace is one of the most famous icons in Medan, North Sumatra. Built between 1888 and 1891 by Sultan Makmun Al Rasyid Perkasa Alamsyah, the ninth Sultan of Deli, this palace stands as a silent witness to the glory of the Deli Sultanate. Its captivating architecture is a harmonious blend of Malay, Islamic (with Persian and Moroccan touches), Indian, and European (especially Italian and Spanish) styles.

The palace complex spans 2,772 m² and consists of 30 rooms, though only the main floor is open to the public. Its main attraction is the grand meeting hall or Balairung, adorned with a magnificent throne and various royal artifacts. Visitors can rent traditional Malay costumes for photos, adding an authentic historical tourism experience. Maimun Palace offers not only visual beauty but also a deep historical and cultural narrative about the Malay kingdom in Sumatra.
